Since I work at a big hardware store, I think that people naturally tend to think that I just know about every single thing that’s in the store.
However, there are hundreds of thousands of item numbers in the store and there is just no way that anyone could ever know every single thing that we sell in the store.
I know a lot of things, but I certainly don’t know everything that we sell. Yesterday, this guy came in and he asked me if we had something called rebar wire ties. I must have looked at him very blankly because he frowned and started yelling at me about how people in the store don’t really know anything at all. He was really rude about it and I don’t know why he thought I would know anything at all about rebar wire ties at all because I actually work in the garden department. It’s really obvious that I work in the garden department because my shirt is green and everyone else’s shirts are blue. Plus, I’m constantly covered in dirt because that’s what I’m messing around with all the time. Anyway, I tried to figure out where the rebar wire ties were so I could get him some but nobody seemed to know where they were stocked or even if they were something that we stocked in the store at all. At least the customer had one rebar wire tie in his pocket so that he could show us what they looked like. We didn’t stock them and he was furious when he found out.
